Growth in the past 20 years for Opus has been substantial and fueled in part by growth in the Oil & Gas sector
across Western Canada. The number of engineering and survey crews in the region quadrupled along with growth in
vehicles and equipment to support it. A priority for Opus was keeping crews safe in often remote locations and
adverse weather conditions. Many of Opus’s clients require adherence to safety policies to win contracts. Vehicles
are primarily heavy duty pickups with decks for quads for remote work. With safety as priority, Opus wanted to ensure
that drivers were maintaining reasonable speeds and the reputation of the company was safeguarded.
Opus selected Titan GPS powered by Certified Tracking Solutions to track their vehicle fleet. The Alberta-based
team systematically addressed their needs and worked diligently with partners to integrate the Titan GPS tracking
Opus uses the Titan GPS solution extensively to keep track of crews. Geofences were set around camps, worksites,
and expected routes. Alerts are then used to notify crew supervisors of safe arrivals and departures.
The leadership team are proponents of using the power of the system to its full extent to assist management of
fleet operations. Slowing down the fleet and minimizing dangerous driving behaviour to enhance further safety, save
on fuel costs, and extend the life of fleet assets is a current priority initiative. Speed and aggressive driving
data are reviewed within the Titan GPS reports and managed with individual drivers and teams.
“How’s my driving?” tailgate decals are used to invite the public to inform them of inappropriate driving
